Thinking About Forming a Team?

Midwest Teams

Getting a Paintball Team Started

  1. Sign you and your team up on a national roster,
  2. PBLeagues.com - the legacy player season and career tracker used by basically every baller. Also find the current seasons local events to watch or play!
  3. Establish the socials and a way for other coaches, players, event organizers, sponsors, etc. to contact your team. More importantly, have someone trustworthy AND personable monitoring that bad boy.
  4. Get a set of gear. Marker, tank, electric hopper, speed loader top, pod pack, 4 pods, ball caddy, and headwrap. While there are always hommies somewhere in the scene selling gear, the cheapest sometimes come from auctions. If you are patient enough and have enough time, you can score GREAT gear for cheap. Maybe find a package deal and split it the cost with some of the hommies. Even if you know you're gonna go for a sponsorship and get all new gear, having a backup set is a must. Mech ball is making a comeback, so don't be afraid to rock some older mechanical marker if it'll save you the rental fee and shoot better than whatever tippman 98 equivalent fields are renting out these days.
  5. eBay Links - Specially curated searches to maximize savings.
  6. Markers (or'gun')
  7. Tanks
  8. Hoppers
  9. Headband
  10. Paint Caddy
  11. Hot on the market!
  12. Threads
  13. Pods
  14. GoPro
  15. Have a GoPro running during 3-4 practices/scrimmages, watch the film as a team to learn. Also, have someone cut up a highlight reel using the free version of Davinci Resolve (or equivalent) to get something up to show sponsors.
  16. No audio needed, just highlights and music you have the rights to. Can also use davinci to watch game film with some very powerful tools at your disposal, like AI tracing points of interest.
  17. Some sponsorships require you to name drop a field that's willing to say "yeah i know them, and no they don't suck," so get out there and play some tournaments! Build up a good rep with the locals, don't wipe your hits and don't talk back to the refs.

Tips on Scoring Sponsorships

Most "sponsorships" for sub D3 teams will be in the way of large group discounts.

In the beginning, the easiest sponsorship you can get is affiliation. Take Amazon's partnership program as an example. Almost anyone with a credible website/social following can apply for an account and start earning commissions on product recommendations! Find a unique paintball thing that you think everyone should be using, and start sharing the affiliate link for it! Some affiliate programs give your team commissions even if a customer doesn't buy the specific item you shared! They [the company] may consider anything sold in a specific time frame (sometimes up to 24 hours) as an effort on your end and give you a commission of those sales. This can be a very powerful too, if you have the pull to convince people to just CLICK the affiliate link.
